At Wheatfield Primary School, the after-school Chess Club offers students the exciting opportunity to engage in the strategic game of chess, fostering critical thinking, patience, etiquette and fair play.
Open to all Year 4, 5 and 6 students, the club meets weekly to learn new techniques, enjoy friendly competition and enhance their skills in an inclusive and supportive environment.
Chess is not just a game; it is an excellent way for children to develop problem-solving abilities and forge new friendships. We encourage all budding strategists to join and share in the fun.
Chess club is run by Candidate Master Oli Stubbs who also runs the Bristol & Gloucestershire Junior County teams
The club runs on Tuesdays as a series of 5-6 weeks per term. There is a charge for these sessions.
2024-25 Achievements
This year Wheatfield’s budding chess team played in the regional ECF Primary School Team Chess Challenge at BGS and qualified.
As the best under 11 team in Bristol we have progressed to the National Finals in Nottingham University on June 24th.
We are very proud of our team!
